The EDRM Metrics project is composed of eight working groups. The groups are listed below, along with descriptions of the groups' focuses, where available, and lists of the working groups' member.

Metrics Identification Working Group
The Identification workgroup's task is to create a comprehensive work breakdown structure and assignment matrix and budget for this critical early step in the e-discovery process. The various tasks can be assigned variously to the client, outside counsel and/or EDD vendor as warranted. Based on the assignments made, a budget for this stage can be prepared.

|
Metrics Preservation Working Group
The goal of the Preservation Working Group is to develop identifiable metrics associated with the preservation of electronically stored information (ESI) for legal proceedings. This includes measuring the time, costs and scale associated with the processes and procedures used to preserve ESI.

Metrics Collection Working Group
| The Collection workgroup's task is to identify, define, and group factors relating to the collection of all potential electronic evidence identified in the Inventory phase of discovery. The final group product should include a matrix or other tool that can be used by a discovery team to take the results of a preliminary inventory, evaluate possible collection techniques and produce rough metrics for volume and condition of the collection phase to be used by the analysis phase tools. All results should not be tied to specific technologies, products or mechanisms to prevent bias and allow the metrics to evolve.
The approach will address broad classes / types of data to be collected. Sample classes could include tape libraries, optical discs, wireless networks, NAS appliances, email databases, individual desktop / laptop images, etc.

Metrics Processing Working Group
The goal of the Processing Work Group is to offer the client community (law firms, corporations, and other involved actors) a set of tools supported by standardized metrics to more effectively navigate the purchasing and implementation process of electronic discovery services and technology. The set of tools and/or parameters resulting from the Processing Work Group will facilitate a more structured and predictable analysis of the costs, timetables, volume, and integrity components of electronic discovery projects without jeopardizing the uniqueness and proprietary value of specific methodologies, pricing or technologies.

Metrics Review Working Group
The EDRM Review metrics working group collects, defines and documents key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the quality, accuracy and speed of electronic document review in litigation and regulatory response. The goal of the project is to provide corporations and law firms involved in a document review with benchmarks by which they can forecast time and expenses for the various types of reviews that may be required and supply oversight into managing the review, monitoring progress and evaluating the vendors and the review team's performance. EDRM Review metrics are designed for use by corporations, law firms, service providers and other stakeholders to provide a common foundation for understanding the process and improving the performance of document review.
