Description:  Former employees, participants and Individual Custodians who are no longer with the company. These could be considered Third Party or Non-Party Custodians excepting the assumption that the ESI is still owned by the responding entity.
Metric:  The metric is the time and effort of IT, Legal and others required to locate and assess the list of custodians and identify what ESI they once possessed as well as the current location and status of any ESI that remain accessible. Corporate retention policies and terminated employee procedures will greatly affect the potential volume of ESI.
