Definitions

Charge coupled device

  • A computer chip (with say 2048 cells) whose output is proportional to the light or color passed by it. Individual CCD's or arrays of these are used in scanners as a high-resolution, “digital camera" to "read" documents. These devices are micro-chip size and their resolutions run as high as 1000 pixels per inch. [1]
