It would be useful to add in OCR to the above steps because as we know, many attached PDF files in the legal world are scanned from paper rather than sent directly via electronic means.

I also note that in the review stage, you mention selecting a vendor that can handle non-edsr material (i.e. paper and the likes), however there is no mention as to how to handle paper here in the processing guide.

For the industry to really move forward and to find some coherence between the two worlds of paper and electronic material, the paper material needs to be processed at the same time as the electronic material so that they can be added into the same review platform and after the TIFF/PDF images have been OCR'd, also have fuzzy-hashing applied along with auto-coding in order to find relevant documents (or to match paper documents with electronic copies in order to settle which will be best suited as the master version).

While I appreciate that this is the 'E'dsr model, I think we can no longer totally ignore paper in the industry and the fact that people still use pens (we all know that cases have been won and lost because of a scribble on the back of a piece of paper, or a signature, or a handwritten note on a copy of a document). I really do think we need a more integrated model that addresses the convergence of these two sources of evidence with early case assessment tools.

Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.
