Computer disk read only memory

• Optical disk storage using the same technology as audio CDs. A computer can read a CD-ROM disc but cannot write on it. Typically used to distribute large amounts of textual information, since one CD-ROM holds about 650 MB of data, or approximately 15,000 pages of text.^[1]

• A type of high density optical disk with a 4" diameter and a 650MB capacity. The information (1's or 0's) is permanently etched by a laser into the surface of the disk and read by a laser beam. The ISO 9660 standard defines how a CD-ROM is written for computer interface. It is not rewritable. It is legally accepted and written on a single-side.^[2]

• Written on a large scale and not on a standard computer CD burner (CD writer), they are an optical disk storage media popular for storing computer files as well as digitally recorded music.^[3]

• Data storage medium that uses compact discs to store about 1,500 floppy discs worth of data.^[4]
