“Data mining” generally refers to techniques for extracting summaries and reports from an organization’s databases and data sets. In the context of electronic discovery, this term often refers to the processes used to cull through a collection of electronic data to extract evidence for production or presentation in an investigation or in litigation. Data mining can also play an important role in complying with data retention obligations under an organization’s formal document management policies.[1]
