• A name for an individual piece of standardized data to be extracted from an image collection. Fields can be the author of a document, a recipient, the date of a document or any other piece of data common to most documents in an image collection.^[1]

• A unit of information in a database. Database records, for example, consist of an ordered list of fields where a specific kind of information is stored in each field. Fields are often printed as columns in database reports.
