Read Only Memory

• The hardware in a computer that that can be read but not written to. ROM contains the programming that allows a computer to boot up each time the user turns it on, and it contains essential system programs that neither the user or the computer can erase.^{[1] [2]}

• An internal chip containing system information that is not erased when the power is turned off.^[3]

• Non-erasable system memory containing basic computer operating instructions programmed by the manufacturer.^[4]

• Random memory which can be read but not written (i.e. changed).^[5]
