Read Only Memory
- The hardware in a computer that that can be read but not written to. ROM contains the programming that allows a computer to boot up each time the user turns it on, and it contains essential system programs that neither the user or the computer can erase.[1] [2]
- An internal chip containing system information that is not erased when the power is turned off.[3]
- Non-erasable system memory containing basic computer operating instructions programmed by the manufacturer.[4]
- Random memory which can be read but not written (i.e. changed).[5]
