Hypertext Markup Language
- A set of codes inserted into a file or document that is intended to display through a Web browser. HTML tells the browser how to display a document’s words and images as a Web page. Each markup symbol is referred to as an element or a tag.[1]
- A language that uses tags to structure text into headings, paragraphs, lists and links. It tells a Web browser how to display text and images.[2] [3]
- The underlying program structure of text on the World Wide Web.[4]
- Developed by CERN of Geneva, Switzerland. The document standard of choice of Internet. (HTML+ adds support for multi-media.) Use in internet application.[5]
- The tag-based ASCII language used to create pages on the Web.[6]
- The standard code used to tell a browser how a web page should be displayed.
