File System

Definition(s)

  • The system that an operating system or program uses to organize and keep track of files. For example, a hierarchical file system is one that uses [Directory|directories}] to organize files into a tree structure. Types of file systems include file allocation table (FAT) and Windows NT file system (NTFS).  1  2
