Map-Reduce

Definition(s)

  • A computational pattern in which complex computations are broken down into two kinds of steps. In the Map step, the data are processed in parallel, typically on a large number of processors. The results of the Map step are then combined in the Reduce step to yield a final result. The Map-Reduce pattern is typically used on top of Hadoop to process big data.  1
