Query Expansion


  • The process of adding Search Terms to a Query to improve Recall, often at the expense of decreased Precision. 1
  • A process wherein a query submitted by a user is modified to include additional terms. The expanded query may include synonyms of the initial query, spelling alternatives, or other related words. Query expansion is one of the methods used to support concept search. 2
