EDRM Update – September 2014

EDRM Update\r\nIssue 13 – September 2014\r\n

Welcome to the September 2014 issue of EDRM Update!

\r\nEarlier this month EDRM announced a new fee structure for corporations, government entities, and academic institutions. We hope this will encourage greater participation among consumer organizations, which are both valued contributors and the primary beneficiaries of EDRM’s work product. As a result of the change we’ve already seen a significant increase in membership and look forward to the trend continuing. See below for the list of our newest members.\r\n\r\nAlso this month, the EDRM Metric team released the new eDiscovery Maturity Self-Assessment Test (eMSAT-1). eMSAT-1 is the first self-assessment resource to help organizations measure their e-discovery maturity with the overriding goal of improving processes. Even though the spreadsheet only has been available for a short time, it already has become a popular download.\r\n\r\nWith the most recent organization to subscribe to the EDRM Model Code of Conduct, we are just one short of 100 organizations. Perhaps your organization can join the list and push us over that threshold.\r\n\r\nMark your calendars now for EDRM’s 2014 Fall Workshop, to be helpd Oct 29 to 31.  Details here and registration here. Thank you to our workshop sponsors:\r\n

\r\nFall is a busy season for education, with several upcoming EDRM webinars already planned. September 2014 Highlights

\r\nEDRM’s Advisory Committee and Provisional Board continued work on transition to a non-profit 501 (c)(6) industry association. The goal is to complete the transition by the end of 2014.\r\n\r\nEDRM’s Data Set team continued work on a case study in which the EDRM Privacy & Security Risk Reduction Model (PSRRM) was used by a large corporation to develop work flow to identify PII during an archives migration effort.\r\n\r\nEDRM’s Data Set team also continued work on a micro-dataset project with the goal of developing a number of small data sets containing a variety of file formats for testing and validation purposes.\r\n\r\nAs the first of a series of anticipated its maturity model tools and resources, EDRM’s Metrics released the new eDiscovery Maturity Self-Assessment Test (eMSAT-1). eMSAT-1 is the first self-assessment resource to help organizations measure their e-discovery maturity with the overriding goal of improving processes. eMSAT-1 is available for download at www.edrm.net/resources/emsat1.\r\n\r\nThe Metrics team also is pursuing additional budget calculators – contributions are welcome!\r\n\r\nEDRM’s Native Files team is continuing to refine the Encapsulated Native File (.ENF) schema and develop guidelines for redaction of native files. The team also is focusing on finalizing the EDRM XML 2.0 schema.\r\n\r\nEDRM’s IGRM team is developing stakeholder viewpoint whitepapers to highlight expectations and obligations of parties involved in developing information governance policies and procedures.\r\n\r\n

Member Profile of the Month

\r\nValerie Lloyd, Manager – eDiscovery Program Manager at Xcel Energy\r\n\r\nEDRM Member since 2009\r\n\r\nEDRM Projects & Committees: Information Governance Reference Model (IGRM), Collections Standards, and Processing Standards\r\n\r\nWhy I’m an EDRM member: EDRM provides a tremendous opportunity to think through the many discovery “challenges” with knowledgeable practitioners. I get the most value from interaction with my corporate peers as well as vendors, IT and legal professionals.  With input representing viewpoints from all affected professional areas, the guidelines, standards, models etc. provide realistic, reasonable solutions for the practitioner.\r\n\r\n
