EDRM Update – March 2015

EDRM Update

Issue 19 – March 2015 — We have had yet another busy month, with the UF Law/EDRM conference, new resources from the IGRM and Metrics, another webinar, and the launch of the EDRM/ACEDS and the eDiscovery Daily partnerships.

The EDRM Spring Workshop is set for May 4-6. This semi-annual face-to-face meeting open to all EDRM members is a “not to miss” event. If you or your organization are not yet an EDRM member, now is the time to join. Help shape plans for the coming year and meet or reconnect with your peers in eDiscovery and Information Governance.

Regards,

George Socha & Tom Gelbmann

March 2015 Highlights

On March 31, we published “IGRM IT Viewpoint,” which explores the role of IT as a key stakeholder within the Information Governance Reference Model (IGRM) framework. This paper is the first in a series that goes deeper to examine and understand the specific stakeholders in information governance.

On March 30, we published the newest budget calculator from the Metrics group. The EDRM Data Calculator is an Excel spreadsheet file that helps you better estimate how much data you may have in matters involving eDiscovery. Download the spreadsheet and instructions here.

On March 27, EDRM and UF Law held our 3rd Annual Electronic Discovery Conference, focusing this year on e-discovery in social media, mobile devices and the cloud. Missed the conference? Recordings will be available at www.law.ufl.edu/academics/ediscovery-conference.

On March 10, we published a draft, for public comment, of the EDRM Processing Standards Guide. The comment period is closed and we revising the guide based on the feedback we received. Even though the comment period is officially closed, we still welcome additional suggestions. To read the draft guide and for instructions on commenting, click here.

On March 4, we hosted an EDRM webinar, “Getting Cloud Data from the New Big Three: Google, iCloud & MS Office 365,” sponsored by Zapproved. Speakers Ian Campbell, Jason Pill and Andrew Wilson delivered a spirited discussion. If you missed the webinar, the recording is available here.

On March 3, we added added daily publication of eDiscovery Daily to the EDRM website.

On March 1, we launched our affinity partnership with ACEDS, which includes a combined membership in both EDRM and ACEDS at a reduced rate. Contact us at mail@edrm.net for details.

Member Profile of the Month

Member since October 2013

I am a member of EDRM because I believe that industry-wide standards are the solution to 95% of the issues that affect electronic discovery projects on a daily basis. We all talk about things being repeatable and defensible, about having workflows and best practices. But the truth is that for too many years too many people have flown by the seat of their pants in collecting, reviewing and producing electronic documents. Meanwhile the EDRM has provided a simple, common framework for everyone to follow. It is the industry standard. Additionally, the EDRM’s published standards, resource guides, and other materials, are necessary reading and a fruitful resource for both practitioners and students of electronic discovery.
